
Our Skating School Philosophy
BISC is committed to providing a skating school program for all ages and skill levels that’s exciting, challenging and fun. With our state-of-the-art facility and excellent professional staff, we take pride in offering you, our customer, a skating program that is first class all the way. If there is anything we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate your individual needs.
Ice Sports Center Class Standards, Cerficiates, Schedules, Fees
Based on the guidelines of the Ice Skating Institute, BISC offers beginning through advanced figure skating and hockey classes. Whether you are an experience skater orhave never stepped foot on the ice we have classes taileored to fit your needs.
-- Class Standards: There are 12 students per instructor. All Students must register with the Ice Skating institute at a fee of $13.00 per year. There are twelve free public Skating sessions for the student during the skating schools semester. Missed classes can be made up during the current semester only. However, no make-up is offered for students taking specialty classes that are offered once weekly. Progress reports will be issued at the end of the first month of classes to evaluate each students progress.
-- Certificates: Upon completion of your class at BISC you will be presented with a certificate of completion at the end of the semester.
Ribbon and Badge testing are optional. The Ice Skating Institute ribbon and badge testing is offered at the end of each semester for a nominal fee. Each student who passes a test will receive an official I.S.I. ribbon or badge and the test will be registered with the national office.
Instructors: Need names, short bio about the instuctor and their qualifications (what makes theme qualified to instruct).

ICE BABIES Introduce your child to the fun sport of ice skating in the right way. Instructors emphasize the proper way to fall and get up, marching while standing and then moving, balance and control. Children should wear gloves and warm clothing.
TOT 1 (Ages 4-5) This class is for skaters who have never been on ice skates before or for those who have not had formal lessons. Children will be taught how to get up, marching, dips, and forward skating.
TOT 2 (Ages 4-5) This class is for skaters who have completed TOT 1. They will learn forward skating, backward swizzles and wiggles.
PRE ALPHA These classes are for skaters who have never been on ice skates before or for those who have not had formal lessons. Students will learn basic forward and backward skating, swizzles, backwards wiggles and snowplow stops.
ALPHA Controlled Forward Stroking, Forward Crossovers & One-footed Snowplow Stops are required to pass to the BETA level.BETA Controlled Backwards Strokings, Backwards Crossovers as well as Left and Rights T-stops are required to pass to the GAMMA level.
GAMMA/DELTA Only students who have passed the Alpha/Beta level, or have the equivalent skating ability may enroll in this class. Forward outside and inside three turns, mohwaks, hockey stops, forward edges, lunges, shoot-the-ducks and bunny hops are maneuvers required to pass to the next level.
ADULT 1 This class is designed for the adult skater who has never skated or who has no formal ice skating instruction. You will learn basic forward and backward skating, snowplow stops, swizzles, backward wiggles and forward crossovers.
ADULT 2 This class is for the intermediate skaters. You will learn three turns, mohawks, forward edges, lunges and beginning jumps and spins.
HOCKEY 1 This class is for skaters who have not skated before. Forward strides, crossovers, one foot glides, swizzles and backward skating will be taught.
HOCKEY 2 Students must have passed Hockey 1 or have comparable skating skills, controlled forward and backward skating and crossovers, hockey steps and proper edge work will be introduced.
HOCKEY 3 At this level, skaters learn the basics of the game. Skaters are required to be equipped with a helmet, stick, shin guards, gloves and elbow pads. The skater will learn how a hockey stick is held and used; stick handling with a puck and rules of the game.
FREESTYLE There are ten freestyle levels in the Ice Skating Institute program with varying degrees of difficulty in each level. Various jumps, spins, footwork and artistic maneuvers are taught in this class.
